Witchy Edwardian Starburst Pendant

We love a riff on the classic and this starburst pendant festooned with green gems in 9ct gold does not disappoint.

The stones in question are Garnet Topped Doublets - a composite material formed of a slice of natural garnet fused to man made paste (a leaded glass). Why did they do this? At the time this was a cutting edge technique to mimic natural gemstones - the slice of garnet gives the lustre and hardness of a natural gemstone, while the paste beneath provides the colour. These stones have been created to mimic Demantoid Garnet and emerald.

The pearls in this piece are naturally formed seed pearls.

Dating to circa 1900 this delightful piece provides a snapshot of its time, when the working classes were relatively new to being able to afford fine jewellery.
