Rare 12ct Antique Watch Chain

Never before have I come across a watch chain in 12ct gold. At exactly 50% gold, the 12ct gold standard existed in the UK from 1854 - 1932 when it was discontinued. It is unusual to find hallmarked 12ct piece, especially in watch chains.

The links are each stamped deeply "12 .5" and graduate from 7.8mm to 4.3mm. All parts bear the makers mark "E&D" and the piece has a date mark for Birmingham, 1897.

This unique alloy has a stunning tone, if I were to place it i'd say it's 80% yellow and 20% rose which gives it a splash of warmth. And with a gold carat higher than the 9ct you typically see these chains in, that makes sense.

The t-bar is stationary (can be customised to your needs - want it removable? no problem) and the total chain length is 14", so you may need an extender to wear as a necklace (happy to help).

Offered in excellent condition, all parts original. Both t-bar and dog clasp swivel.

In modelled photos, the chain is being worn with a 1.75” extender. If you need an extender we can sell antique 9ct extenders separately.
