The Piece London

Mid-Century 18ct Fortuna Pendant

£1,000 Sold out

Fortuna, the Roman Goddess of luck, is often featured blindfolded to symbolise the randomness of fortune, be it good or bad. An important talisman for millennia, she's also often also featured alongside the Wheel of Fortune which Fortuna is said to spin at random, changing lives and highlighting the capricious nature of fate.

This stunning pendant, crafted from 11.34g of 18ct gold features a truly striking profile of our Lady Fortuna, in a style typical of the Art Nouveau period. Surrounded with ornate gold detailing, to the reverse there is a decorative panel depicting the stylised Wheel of Fortune. This panel is removable, but only by bending the gold prongs, which we wouldn't advise making a regular habit!

There is also a gold brooch fitting to the reverse, making this a highly versatile piece.

The piece bears the makers mark for a Naples based goldsmith registered in the 1950s, and though we can't track down further details, the craftmanship is remarkable.

Offered in excellent vintage condition.
