Antique 18ct Albert Chain - 1885
If you've been in the antique jewellery world for more than 30 seconds, you'll appreciate how uncommon it is to see such a heavy, 18ct chain like this in a wearable 19.5".
Weighing over 142g this is a very serious piece, and the solidity of it is evident down to every last detail; the jump rings, tightly sitting curb links and the matching dog clasps.
All components are original and stamped for 18ct. A date mark to one of the curb links tells us it was assayed in Chester, 1885. The t-bar and both dog clasps bear the makers mark "A & M" for Allen and Martin, registered jewellers from 1881.
The links are 7.7mm wide and there is a moving t-bar with an 2" long extra section of chain.
At some point in its 140 year history, possibly when it was made, this piece has had a high carat flash. This has worn most heavily on the dog clasps which are a slightly less bright yellow tone than the curb chain, but as you can see from the photos it all blends beautifully.
