Foliate Engraved 18ct Victorian Band

This is as lovely a gold band as you will ever see.

Hand engraved from buttery 18ct gold, it is a strikingly good example of a Victorian hand engraved foliate (wedding) band.

The band features a range of floral details, most prominently ivy, which was admired for its enduring ability to cling to walls through challenging conditions, and so symbolised the (hopefully) lasting love of a marriage.

This ring is in excellent antique condition. It has been well worn (which in a wedding band is surely a good omen) and the inner date mark has been worn away, but we can confidently date this to C1880
