Antique Italian Fancy Link Chain with Oversized Bolt Horseshoe Locket

Check out this fantastic piece of antique Italian jewellery history - a long (20") fancy link chain paired with an oversize bolt ring which suspends a lozenge-shape locket decorated with a horseshoe studded with old-cut paste.

The chain can full detach from the bolt & locket combo, meaning this piece can be worn in a myriad of ways! The chain can be worn solo, or with both ends attached to the bolt ring. Alternatively, the central link on the locket drop can allow you to use it as an extender, increasing the chain length to 21.5".

The piece is modelled in 12ct rose gold and the locket bears the makers mark "F Rov". It dates to circa 1890. Twelve carat gold was used in Italy in this period, but is not common to come by.

It is offered in good condition, with slight link thinning in a handful of spots, but with lots of life ahead.
