Antique Curb // Umbalite Garnet

The kind of bracelet I love to make from antique chain and deeply interesting gemstones - and this is the biggest one yet!

You’re looking at an antique bracelet from 1894 with its original dog clasp, a wide and weighty example with stamps on every link. The gold colour is a vibrant yet soft, peachy tone. To the centre you see a bezel set 2.94ct Umbalite Garnet.

Umbalite Garnet is a garnet which is part pyrope, part spessartine. The blend of spessartine - which are orange - with the traditional purple-pink pyrope makes for an incredible colour. These stones are found along the Umba river in Tanzania and are known for their high quality and clarity. This one has been beautifully cut, to boot.

Since the bracelet is neither yellow nor rose, the garnet is bezel set in yellow gold which really gives it an extra ‘pop’ and brings out the yellow hues in the gold of the bracelet.

One of the best gemmy curbs ever! The dog clasp is original to the chain (width of links listed below) and the piece can be shortened at no extra charge, removing the slightly narrower links towards the ends.
