Antique Belcher Chain | Cornflower Spinel | 9ct
I recently came across some antique long-guard chains in excellent condition. For those not yet in the know, long guard chains were extremely long (often over 60") chains worn in the late 1800s with a pocket watch or keys secured at the end.
We've transformed them into shorter necklaces, each with their own gemstone to the centre.
This piece has had a 2.13ct octagon cut cornflower blue spinel set to the centre. The gemstone has great presence and a cool relaxed tone with precise crisp facets.
The chain is antique yellow gold, so you're right to expect a splash of warmth to it. I particularly love how each of the links are planished (diamond shaped facets) which has gently worn with age to give a beautifully subtle impact. We have finished with one of our own 9ct (new) dog clasps.
