Romantic Art Nouveau Green Velvet & Gold Buckle Conversion Choker
This sultry choker is the epitome of elevated antiques. The gold buckle, bolt ring and dog clasp were purchased on a much deteriorated black grosgrain / albertina ribbon which would have been used by its original owner to hold a pocket watch and / or a fob.
The rich colour of the gold works beautifully with the forest green velvet trim grosgrain ribbon that has been sourced to convert the gold fittings to a modern choker that is comfortable to wear as well as a luxurious statement piece.
We date the gold to c1900 and love the combination of the scrolling gold work, integral to the Art Noveau period, with the buckle motif which endured the Victorian era and signifies closeness to those we love, and perhaps, lost.
The gold has a significant weight, coming in at 7.8g (excluding the ribbon). The length of the choker is 14.5 inches / 38cm and we will happily include a slightly longer length of ribbon should you wish to have it fashioned into a longer or shorter length (if you're not handy at sewing, your clothes alterer / dry cleaner will likely be able to help).
Note: in some images the photo is featured alongside other pieces, this listing is only for the velvet choker
